>> Hunting in the Reserve

Welcome to the Narragansett Bay Research Reserve's hunting page. Here you will find seasonal information about hunting in and around the Reserve.

HUNTING
Narragansett Bay Research Reserve lands on both Prudence and on Patience Islands are open for the hunting of deer, waterfowl, and small game during the appropriate seasons. The following information is an overview of some of the aspects of hunting on the Reserve. For more comprehensive information visit the Rhode Island DEM's Hunting Regulations.

Archery

Archery is the only method of legal deer hunting, with the exception of the use of firearms by paraplegics during a special designated pre-season hunt. Hunters must possess a valid proficiency test card.

Hunting Season

The archery season begins in the fall and continues through early winter. Generally, the special season for paraplegics begins two weeks prior to the regular archery season. In addition, there is a Junior Archery Season.

Small Game

Small game hunting by use of shotgun varies throughout the Reserve. The RI DEM Hunting Regulations outline these details.

Safety During Hunting Season

It should be noted that for safety, vehicle access throughout the South End Reserve may be limited or prohibited during hunting season.

Also during hunting season, all visitors of State Management areas must wear a minimum of 200 square inches of daylight fluorescent orange.
